Australian and Dutch archaeologists are working closely together since 2014 in trying to locate the shipwreck Fortuyn. The project started with historical and archival research to find out where the ships the Fortuyn might be located. The archival work was processed with the collaboration of Dutch archivist Pablo Boorsma and Martijn Manders of the Dutch Maritime Programme. With this research, the team gathered enough evidence to assume the ship(s) have been wrecked on Christmas Island or Cocos Keeling Islands. The research continued in 2016. The Maritime Programme offered an internship for a Dutch and an Indonesian student maritime archaeology who wished to increase their practical experience and knowledge in the field.
Dutch Maritime Archaeology student Robert de Hoop has posted a blog series during the research in Australia which can be found on this platform.
