Dive investigation on Roman quay near Cuijk

From 28 August to 6 September 2013, the RCE carried out exploratory field research in Zone 6000 in Cuijk, where the remains of what is believed to be a landing jetty or quay from the late Roman period. The area has high archaeological value and is partly an archaeological monument.

Never before had a similar study been carried out in the Netherlands in such shallow waters. During the field research, various methods and techniques were tested to determine whether there is stratification in the Roman site. The research results from 2013 indicate that the area has high information value and good preservation conditions. The research revealed that there was indeed horizontal and vertical stratification at the Roman site.
