Studying maritime archaeology and heritage management in Leiden

Friday, June 8, 2018 - 16:54

Are you interested in studying maritime archaeology? Check out the classes 'Heritage, archaeology and maritime landscapes' at Leiden University. Dr. Martijn Manders tries to make his students understand how humans and water are related and most importantly: what part does heritage management play in the discipline? One of the elements is to engage students in a roleplay: https://www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/news/2018/05/role-play-in-maritime-archaeology-class. In 2017-2018 the course was given for the 8th year.

If you want to learn more about the interaction between maritime history and maritime archaeology, there is also a course 'Maritime treasures', which is a crossover between both discplines and a cooperation of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Archaeology. Dr. Anita van Dissel and dr. Martijn Manders teach this course together: https://studiegids.leidenuniv.nl/courses/show/75847/maritime-treasures-diving-into-maritime-history-and-archeology
